Fundamental Orders of 1639 Back on Display at the Museum of Connecticut History

The Fundamental Orders of 1639 are back on exhibit in Memorial Hall at the Museum of Connecticut History. Inspired by a sermon given by the Reverend Thomas Hooker, one of Connecticut’s founding fathers, the Fundamental Orders were the first written form of self government in the new world. Connecticut is officially known as the Constitution State because of the democratic principles of Constitutional government contained in the Fundamental Orders.

Connecticut’s 1934 Aerial Survey Now Online

The Connecticut State Library has digitized the 8,731 original 1934 aerial photographs, and published them at http://cslib.cdmhost.com/cdm4/aerials.php. The 1934 survey was taken before the Hurricane of 1938 radically changed the topography of the state, but after a statewide paving project called “Get Connecticut Out of the Mud” enabled the popular new-fangled automobiles to climb the state’s hills and cruise its valleys. The original photographic prints have long been one of the most heavily used collections at the State Library.
