Early American Newspapers is a full-text, searchable database the nation’s historic newspapers. Contributors include the American Antiquarian Society, Connecticut State Library, Library of Congress, as well as other nationally known repositories. This collection is published in parts and the Connecticut State Library has subscriptions to Series, 1, 2, 4 and 5. The majority of the collection dates from the late 1700s to mid 1800s; Series 1 is complete while content is still being added to Series 2, 4 and 5. At this time there are 58 newspaper titles from 15 Connecticut cities and towns. The database may or may not hold a complete collection for each title; for example there are only 5 issues of Sharon’s weekly newspaper, Rural Gazette while a full run of the Middlesex Gazette is available from November 1785 through December 1828. This resource is available to patrons using the public access Internet terminals of the Connecticut State Library.

I used to be able to search and read Historic newspapers online. Now I can’t find the link. Where did it go? I have the endorsement on my library card to do this.

Hi Linda,
We’re sorry you’re having trouble finding historic newspapers on our site. We still have subscriptions to the following historical newspapers (you should be able to access these from anywhere with your State Library card number):

These and other research databases that are available to State Library users are linked from our Research Databases page. Please email isref@cslib.org if you have any additional problems or give us a call. Thank you!
